My work is an investigation of social order using Victorian imagery as a frame of reference.  Through collage and sculpture, I highlight the rigidity of gender roles and social structures by subverting images of that rigidity.  Limbs are distorted and multiplied; static objects are imbued with new movement and possibilities both fantastic and grotesque.  I'm interested in the inevitable distortion that occurs through processes of reproduction, such as photocopying images and casting objects in plaster, and exaggerating those distortions.  I toy with ideas of authenticity through created spaces filled with antiques, reproductions, and alterations thereof.  I manipulate historical imagery in order to draw out resonances with contemporary society.

Tawny Kerr is an artist based in Glasgow.
