Artist Statement
Materials, process and experimentation are all key factors in my art work. The manipulation of materials brings about unexpected results leading to combinations of materials from bone china, soot, ash, enamel paint, tears, wax and salt.
My passionate engagement in making and in experimentation is the genesis from which my work evolves. Works produced are sculptures, collages, paintings and installations.
Some of the work is abstract while others reference the body and have personal potent conceptual themes of loss and desire.
Jan Blythe is originally from Glasgow, Scotland and has been living and working in the San Francisco Bay Area for the last 17 years.
