My artwork is figurative and depicts the human figure in an existentialist, sometimes romanticized, grotesque or absurd way. It is my intention to depict people who in innocent and sometimes absurd and humoristic situations reveal comments on society and humanity. The media I use to express my ideas with are drawing, sculpture, printmaking, painting, video, writing and theatre. Inspired by Bertolt Brecht’s concepts of ‘epic theatre’ and ‘distancing effect’ it is my aim to make the viewers of my art feel slightly repelled so that they will not loose themselves in the artwork but preferably remain consciously critical observers.
In my recent artwork I have depicted the overwhelming and disempowering dominance of e.g. capitalism, mass media and technology over contemporary human life, in a neo-romantic and a critically absurd way. I have depicted people who flee into imaginary illusions of nature and reality in attempts to escape confronting the world as it is. Or I have depicted Beckettian situations that critically reflect upon the absurdity of the human condition and which humouristically mirror events stressing the incapacity of human nature.
