Memory is dynamic, often a blend of the original event and our current state of mind. It’s tempting to think of our long-term memories as static and unchanging, but they are not. Memories are subject to change and revision in small ways almost every time we remember something, and they are very susceptible to external manipulation.

Ben Skea’s recent work explores themes of memory using time-based media and digital printmaking.
He has sought out and recorded evidence of natural occurrences / varied memories of past events – memory traces that unless examined closely would go unnoticed. His video and print work deals with scenes that capture the visual trails left by life-forms as they pass through the environment.
In the work, the reconstructive nature of the process, ultimately mirrors the fragile nature of memory – our past continually being updated to fit our present context and knowledge.

 Lives and works in Glasgow.
