Panel Discussion with Dr Jill Burke, Fiona Jardine and Jan Verwoert. Chaired by Dr Dominic Paterson
14th March / 6–7.30pm
Glasgow University (Yudowitz Lecture Theatre, Wolfson Medical Building)

This discussion will uses Vasari’s ‘The Lives of the Artists’ as a starting point to examine the ways we assign the ‘value’ of contemporary art.

Giorgio Vasari’s ‘The Lives of the Artists’ is an encyclopedic overview of Renaissance artists, retrospectively posited as one of the founding texts of art history. The way artworks were interpreted and evaluated changed dramatically after its publication giving rise to international and institutional networks that still function as a means of distributing and validating artworks.

This panel discussion is the final in a series of Primer Events presented by the Glasgow International Festival of Visual Art hosted by Glasgow University.
